Sew Pieceful's Upcoming Block of the Month Program: "Quilt Blocks on American Barns"

Melanie has been working hard on our next block of the month program called "Quilt Blocks on American Barns." This book by Eleanor Burns pays tribute to barn quilts like those that have shown up on Barn Quilt Trails all over farmland USA.

The fun tradition began in 2001 in Manchester, Ohio where a woman painted a quilt block on the family’s barn to honor her mother, who was an avid quilter!  The local community joined in and soon painted quilt blocks on their barns too!  These barns have now become tourist attractions with maps pinpointing each barn location.  There are even barn quilt tours popping up right here in Wisconsin!  Watch this video to learn more about Shawano County’s Barn Quilt Project!

Or head on over to www.barnquiltinfo.com to find out more about the American Barn Quilt Movement!
As part of this Block-of-the-Month program you will learn a variety of new techniques as you make these pieced barn blocks, each with a miniature quilt block pattern.  Corn & Beans, Flying Kite, and Pinwheel are just a few of the block techniques included.  And bonus projects for one-block repeat patterns round out this fun Sampler quilt!

A field trip to go see some real barn quilts may also be in the works!  We can hardly contain our excitement about this upcoming project!  Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Check out our new "Chickadee" Display!

We are very excited to be carrying a new fabric line called "Chickadee" by local fabric designer, Jamie Kalvestran.  Jamie is from Merrill, Wisconsin and is known for her Scrap-Bag patterns, but her latest line of fabric is also currently proudly on display in our shop!  (Kudos to Sandy and Marie for a job well done on the display!)

Jamie, herself, stopped by with several completed projects (including bags, an apron, and several quilts) that will give you plenty of inspiration on what you can do with the fabric!  An added bonus...several of the projects are free patterns!

We love that we have the opportunity to support one of our own and hope you are as excited about "Chickadee" as we are!  Stop the shop for a visit and check out the display, we'd love to see you!
